A White-headed woodpecker drives a Hairy Woodpecker from HIS perch
I was fortunate this winter to have a pair of White-headed Woodpeckers visiting my feeders along with several Hairy Woodpeckers. Although, they are smaller in size, the White-headed Woodpeckers considered my feeders theirs alone and drove off any Hairy Woodpeckers present when they arrived.
I spent countless hours bundled up out on my deck with my camera trying to capture the split second of action where both combatants met at the perch. After a month of trying I finally got a shot with both woodpeckers in the frame..
